Bayer Leverkusen are fearful that Chelsea could cancel Callum Hudson Odoi’s loan deal and bring him back to the club in January.
That’s according to Sport BILD, who say the Blues have an option to terminate the loan deal early should they wish to.
Hudson-Odoi joined Leverkusen on loan in the summer, having fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
He was keen to find regular playing time elsewhere and was sent out to Leverkusen, where he has quickly become a first-team regular and impressed.
That development is being ‘closely monitored’ by Chelsea, who are now showing more interest thanks to Graham Potter’s arrival at the club.
He has ‘big plans’ for the player and even wanted to take him to Brighton in the summer but a deal could not be done as the Seagulls wanted a permanent deal and Chelsea would only sanction a loan.
Potter is now ‘aching’ for the forward to return, though, and a clause in his contract ‘makes it possible’ for them to do so in the January transfer window.
Leverkusen would not be happy if that were to happen, but they will have stars Florian Wirtz and Amine Adli back by that point so will be covered regardless.
It would be a blow to lose Hudson-Odoi, however, and there’s a distinct feeling at the German club that it could happen now that Potter is in charge at Stamford Bridge.
