Former Italy international Giancarlo Antognoni believes Southampton forward Graziano Pelle shouldn’t head to China this summer. Pelle is on the verge of joining Chinese side Shandong despite the alleged interest from Chelsea.

Speaking to TMW Radio, Antognoni was asked what he thought about the reports Pelle would be heading to China in this transfer window. The ex Fiorentina said Pelle is being tracked by clubs in Europe, and therefore thinks the Southampton star should consider these.

Antognoni highlighted that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is an admirer of the forward, and therefore thinks the best solution for all would be for Pelle to sign for the West London side.

“Pelle is courted Europe and in my opinion he should carefully evaluate the offers that have arrived. Conte appreciates him a lot and he should stay in the Premier League in a Chelsea shirt. It would be definitely the best solution,” said the 1982 World Cup winner.

Southampton look set to cash in on Pelle this summer with his contract set to expire in 12 months. The Italian was one of the standout players for his country during the Euros, and has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks.
