Back on Thursday, surprising claims from Italy linked Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso with a job at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A report from Tutto Mercato Web claimed the Molineux side were ‘studying’ the coach, who could turn out to be ‘more than an idea’ in case they decide to sack Nuno Espírito Santo.

The rumour obviously got some attention in the local media, and we now have former Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli commenting on it.

“Knowing him, I think he’s not responding to any calls, moreover it’s not certain that he’ll definitely leave Napoli at the end of the season. Maybe, qualifying for the Champions League could change the scenarios,” Mirabelli told Radio CrC (via Napoli Magazine).

“At the moment Gattuso is 100% focused on Napoli. it’s still time to straighten the season, as long as the group finds enthusiasm.”

The former World Cup winner with Italy in 2006 started his managing career back at Sion in 2013. Since then, he’s been in charge of Palermo, OFI Creta, Pisa, Milan and finally Napoli, where he’s been since December 2019.

In their current Serie A campaign, Napoli are now 6th on the table, out of the zone for a spot in European competitions. That’s why there’s a little doubt regarding his future at the club.

Now with both his and Nuno Espírito Santo’s situations still unclear, it seems it will still take a while until this story can have any serious developments.
