Inter Milan are looking to intensify their move for Tottenham‘s Cristian Romero but have now set a deadline.
Last week, Sport Witness covered how the defender’s agent met a Nerazzurri intermediary in Milan. This was an attempt to assess whether a deal is possible, with initial contact made between the clubs.
It was believed that discussions could intensify, with Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio having flown back to Milan on Wednesday.
The Italian champions’ stance on the matter is becoming clear, with the deal taking shape.
Marotta convinced it can be done
Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport reports Romero spoke to Lautaro Martinez during the World Cup about joining Inter. He is interested in the move and has his bags packed to leave Tottenham as soon as possible.
It is believed this week will be key in understanding if a move can happen or not. Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is convinced it is possible, especially if Spurs agree to accept bonuses that take the move up to €40m.
Corriere dello Sport note that Tottenham appreciate Inter aren’t trying for a loan. Their intention has always been to sign him permanently, even if there is no agreement yet.
The Nerazzurri ownership is also prepared to make the extra effort for the signing. This is why Inter will offer up to €40m, with Spurs having started with €50m when the player was first offered.
The newspaper confirm that Inter want a deal done by the end of this week. If not, they would give it a maximum of ten days. If nothing moves, they would happily move on.
Our take: Inter expecting too much
Inter expect Tottenham to give them a discount but so far, there have been no signs they will get it.
This suggests the Nerazzurri are simply trying to execute a difficult deal. For now, there is no pressure on Spurs to sell. Even if the Argentine wants to leave, it isn’t a desperate situation yet.
