Earlier this month, Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope suffered a shoulder injury and is set to be out of action for months.
This saw the Magpies being linked with a few shot stoppers, including David de Gea, who is still without a club since leaving Manchester United in the summer.
Barcelona were said to be interested in the 33-year-old, but on December 5th, Mundo Deportivo stated the La Liga side don’t intend to sign De Gea, giving Newcastle a free shot to secure his services.
Apart from the Magpies, Real Betis have also been named as an interested party. Estadio Deportivo have a report on the possibility of these two teams signing the Spaniard.
It’s said the stopper continues requesting the interested clubs a similar salary he received at Old Trafford.
The report even states De Gea ‘won’t go below €20m’ per year to sign for any club, which is why Manuel Pellegrini’s side ruled out a move for him. ED add this is also ‘unattainable’ for Newcastle.
De Gea’s demands seem to be quite unrealistic and ED say that if he were to not change his position, a move to Saudi could be the only ‘practical’ option for him.
