Wolverhampton Wanderers will have to pay €20m if they wish to sign David Garcia from Osasuna this summer.
That’s according to El Correo, who say the centre-back is looking for a deal worth €3m a year if he is to leave the Spanish side.
The newspaper explains that Garcia is a potential target for Athletic Club this summer as they are preparing for a future without Iñigo Martínez.
He is looking likely to join Barcelona and so they will need to find a replacement for the defender, who has been one of their best players in recent years.
They currently have two options on their radar, Osasuna’s David Garcia and Valencia’s Hugo Guillamón.
In terms of the former, he currently earns around €2m net a year and would want that increasing to €3m, while his €20m release clause ‘would have to be paid in full’ for any transfer to happen.
That’s because Osasuna are in a strong financial position and do not need to negotiate any fee at this moment in time. Thus, a five-year deal for the player would prove to be an expensive operation for a club like Athletic.
The information should be of interest to Wolves, though, who have been given very clear figures for a transfer that Julen Lopetegui has been eyeing for some time.
He first wanted to sign Garcia in January but saw the move blocked by the defender but has retained an interest in him and a recent report indicated Wolves would be making a second effort in the summer transfer window.
Now they know it will cost them €20m and at least €3m a year in wages and it remains to be seen if they’re willing to pay such figures.
