Following the many reports of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ attempting to sign Enzo Fernandez from River Plate, we’ve seen claims saying his move to Europe could be delayed.

It was said that both the Argentine club and player wanted him to stay in Buenos Aires for a few more months, so he could play in the rest of this Copa Libertadores campaign and not harm the squad in the midfielder of the season.

However, a turnaround is now reported by ESPN journalist Gustavo Yarroch (via Bolavip). He claims that Fernandez ‘changed his plans’ and would like to leave River this summer.

The reason is his release clause, which currently stands at €20m, will go up to €25m in July. That’s why the interested clubs would rather sign him now, and it’s said to be a ‘key factor’ for his future.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are, along with Benfica, once again mentioned as one of the clubs who could sign the midfielder this summer.

On Tuesday, the Argentine and the Portuguese media were flooded with claims saying Wolves have an official in Argentina to try to find a deal for Fernandez. With River Plate not willing to negotiate, triggering the release clause would be the only way to make the signing happen.
