There is a growing feeling that Salernitana made a ‘mistake’ blocking Boulaye Dia’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who say that there has been one problem after another with the striker since he saw the Wolves transfer fail.
They explain that Salernitana find themselves without their most important striker as club football returns following the international break.
It is currently a case of ‘who knows’ when Dia will return as he picked up an injury with Senegal and that his country have insisted is not a trivial one by any means. They believe he will be missing for a couple of weeks.
He’s decided to stay in France to due to personal reasons, having unexpectedly changed his plans at the last minute. That decision sent Salernitana president Danilo Iervolino ‘into a rage’. He’s yet to do anything but may be forced to take action if the situation does not change.
He’s now wondering whether he should have accepted Wolves’ late bid for the striker, with the decision to reject it now looking increasingly like a ‘mistake’.
Salernitana had wanted €25m for the player after paying half of that to sign him on a permanent basis from Villarreal. Wolves never got close to that, only offering a loan with a right to buy.
That bid caused outrage at the Italian club, leading to director of football Morgan de Sanctis to publically call the Premier League side out in a press conference.
With Dia having gone on something of a mission to air his grievances at that decision, and now disappeared after the international break, there is a growing feeling perhaps it would have been better to accept it after all.
