Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sasa Kalajdzic has revealed he will maintain his current contract, despite relegation to the Championship.
Krone report comments from the striker today. He also revealed that Wolves had sent scouts to watch him in action for loan club LASK.
Revival away from Wolves
The 28-year-old striker joined the Austrian side in September as he looked to get his career back on track after an injury ravaged few years.
He’s since featured in 53% of the available minutes in the Austrian Bundesliga, with 21 appearances to date. And he’s flourished, with six goals and four assists in those games so far. He also has one goal and four assists in four games in the ÖFB-Cup.
But the current deal doesn’t include an option to buy. And that means, at this moment in time, he’s heading back to Wolves. They, of course, will be playing in the Championship next season. But Kalajdzic says his contract will remain a Premier League one.
“The contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers is also valid for the Championship,” he said when asked following the win over Rapid. However, staying in Linz is still a possibility at this moment in time.
“Dino (Buric, Linz sporting director) and I are constantly in contact,” he added.
“I came here because of Dino. He was the deciding factor. I don’t know what will happen in the summer. I’m content and living in the here and now.”
Wolves watching
It also seems that Wolves are keeping a close eye on the striker, despite him seemingly not being a part of their plans last summer.
“A few people from Wolves are here today and watched the game,” he concluded.
Whether that means Wolves are planning a summer exit, or return, remains to be seen. With relegation now confirmed, Rob Edwards will need to reshape his squad drastically next season.
That could include bringing back a striker who hasn’t really had his chance at Molineux but has gotten back on track in his homeland this season.
