The Italian press have been reporting Wolves interest in Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas for around a year, with perhaps some questioning just how true those claims were.
Well, now confirmations about the Premier League club’s approach have arrived from the player himself.
Il Messaggero have spoken to the 23-year-old about his situation at the Rome club and he explained that decision on a transfer are for Lazio to make and not him.
Mandas is quoted as saying: “[Ivan] Provedel and I are both under contract. In the end, the club will decide what is best. Lazio always comes first and we both know it. Next season I hope to still be here, but I cannot know my future.”
Speaking about interest from Wolves, the stopped stated they made an approach last summer and could return for another try.
“Last year Wolverhampton contacted Lazio, but the club did not want to consider my departure. The English [club] said they would return later. The Premier League interests me, but I will not move just for the sake of it.”
Il Messaggero add more detail to the comments and claim that Wolves offered €12m in August last year and it was rejected by the Biancocelesti.
They believe that now, Vitor Pereira’s side will have to double that, and perhaps go even higher. Maurizio Sarri’s side are keen on keeping Mandas but if Wolves offer something like €30m, everything changes.
The Italian side are suffering from a lack of financial fluidity and major sales will help them keep going in the transfer window.
