On July 22nd, we relayed news from Germany that Wolverhampton Wanderers are in talks with Borussia Mönchengladbach over a deal for Nico Elvedi.
It was also stated the defender has expressed his desire to leave, and his current deal expires in 2024.
The centre-back’s intention to change clubs is again echoed by today’s Rheinische Post, who talk about Wolves’ interest in him.
It’s claimed the Bundesliga side are ready to party ways with the 26-year-old and would need a ‘double-digit millions’ offer.
The report states Wolves’ negotiations are ‘tough’ because they aren’t willing to meet the demands set by Gladbach for the Switzerland international. There’s no mention of the fee
Julen Lopetegui’s side are willing to offer for the player.
Rheinische Post expect Elvedi to leave Mönchengladbach as they state Maximilian Wöber is already seen as a candidate to replace the Swiss. On Monday, Gladbach signed Wöber from Leeds United on a loan deal.
Should Wolves refuse to pay up, and Gladbach not back down, it’s likely another club will need to be found.
Elvedi featured 34 times last season, managing three goals in the process.
