On Wednesday afternoon, several Belgian media outlets reported Leander Dendoncker is likely to transfer to Wolves before the window closes at 5pm on Thursday.

The Anderlecht player has been repeatedly linked with an exit from the club over the past couple of years, and whilst there’s been claimed interest from AS Monaco, Marseille and Atletico Madrid, the English route has always felt likelier.

Seeing a move fail, once again, in the winter transfer window, Dendoncker will have likely been getting nervous as the deadline approached, and HLN suggest that’s why he’s ended up at Wolves.

It’s claimed Wolves have been prepared to pay €20m, interested in the player all summer, but he held them off hoping to get better offers from elsewhere. Now that hasn’t been the case, the Belgian international is picking Wolves, but they’re now only prepared to pay €13-15m.

Despite that, things are moving forward and HLN state Dendoncker passed a medical to join Wolves on Wednesday night.

There’s a suggestion Dendoncker isn’t entirely happy with this move and that he’s had to settle for it. That’s pushed with the €20m earlier offer claim.

But it has to be said that there’s a strange dynamic at times between the Belgian media and Dendoncker and there will be an effort to paint this move as something of a failure and a blow to the player.
