Wolves are keen on signing Independiente del Valle’s Patrik Mercado in the winter market.

On October 7th, we covered claims from Ecuador that Wolves wanted to sign the 22-year-old last summer. It was indicated he could he heading to Molineux in January despite Chelsea interest.

Fast forward to November and El Diario cover the latest on Wolves’ chances of securing his services.

Recent claims in Spain have mentioned Sevilla as an option while Mercado has also been approached by unnamed Portuguese clubs. El Diario, after pointing this out, relay information shared by journalist María José Flores.

She claims the Premier League side are leading the race to sign the midfielder. Wolves are in ‘advanced talks’ and negotiations to secure the Ecuador international are progressing well.

The operation is so advanced that María José Flores reports Wolves have ‘practically closed’ the deal to sign him in January.

Mercado has a contract until December 2027, and Independiente del Valle are said to be expecting at least $6.9m [€5.96m] from his sale.

There’s already been a mention of Wolves’ interest in the UK. Whether María José Flores’s claim will be backed up in a similar way remains to be seen.

Mercado is a product of the Ecuadorian club’s academy and has been with their first team since 2022. The Wolves target has played 112 matches for Independiente del Valle.
