Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Gonçalo Guedes is set to be sidelined at Benfica, according to claims from the Portuguese media.
The winger was subbed off in their last game against Vizela last weekend, and as revealed by outlet Record, he had a blow to his left knee.
That means Guedes is ruled out of Friday’s clash against Famalicão, and currently doubtful for the Champions League clash against Club Brugge.
As things stand, it doesn’t seem like a serious injury, unless Benfica carry new evaluations which show a bigger problem.
Since joining Benfica on loan in January, Guedes only has two goals in eight appearances for the club, and is still to have the impact they once expected when they agreed his return to the Estádio da Luz.
The deal between the Eagles and Wolves does not include a buying option for the Portuguese side. So in case he continues to be stale at the Lisbon club, it’s unlikely they’ll make a big effort to get him permanently signed.
Guedes’ contract with Wolverhampton runs until 2027.
