On Tuesday, there was a report in the Italian media that Lazio were still interested in Leander Dendoncker.

This came from Corriere dello Sport, who suggested the Wolverhampton Wanderers versatile midfielder was seen as one of the options to replace Lucas Leiva down the line.

Well, Gazzetta dello Sport pick up on that on Wednesday, explaining the Belgian is the ‘most plausible option’ for the Serie A side to bolster their midfield.

Already after him in 2020, Lazio have returned for the Wolves man due to Maurizio Sarri’s desire to revamp the squad in Rome.

What is appealing about Dendoncker is the fact his contract with the Premier League club expires in 2023, meaning Lazio ‘hope to succeed in getting him for a fee not superior to €20-25m’.

The Wolves midfielder’s versatility is also key, since he can play in the heart of a formation, but also in front of or as part of a defence if needed.

A lot will likely depend on whether Bruno Lage sees a future for Dendoncker in his plans at Molineux going forward, but the Portuguese manager has included him far more during the second half of the campaign, so there might still be some hope of a Premier League stay.

Unless, of course, the player fancies a new adventure elsewhere.
