Given Diogo Jota’s career so far it’s hard to believe he won’t turn 22 years of age until December.
Starting out with Pacos de Ferreira, Jota was snapped up by Atletico Madrid’s scouts in 2016. The Spanish cub repeatedly have officials in Portugal watching various matches, and it’s led them to players including the Wolves forward.
Understandably finding it impossible to break through at the Madrid club, Jota was loaned out to FC Porto for a season and did really well considering his lack of experience.
That must have caught the attention of Wolves, and Jota spent last season in the Championship on loan before completing a permanent move to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Asked if Premier League promotion gives him a special status in the U21 squad, Jota is quoted by Record as saying: “I don’t think so, it’s a good opportunity to show my worth in the best league in the world and it sees me here with another progress and experience.”
Should he be able to impress in the Premier League then the next step will be the Portuguese senior team, to which the Wolves player said: “It’s always a goal… it is the highest level of international football.”
