Beşiktaş made their first approach to sign Wolves’ Emmanuel Agbadou more than a week ago. At that point it looked like they were fishing for a market opportunity, and were likely ignorant about the response they’d get.

Three days ago, we covered claims from Turkey that Beşiktaş have made significant progress in their attempts to secure the defender.

Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu picks up on that and covers the latest on the Black Eagles’ pursuit of the Wolves player.

He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state Beşiktaş have has reached an agreement with the centre-back. They now have to agree terms with the Premier League side to complete this operation.

According to Sabuncuoğlu, the Turkish club have tabled an official bid to sign the 28-year-old. That offer is a loan with an option to buy set at €10m.

Wolves would also receive a €2m loan fee for the defender.

The Premier League club are demanding better terms from the Istanbul side. Sabuncuoğlu explains Wolves want more money, without specifying whether that’s for the loan fee or purchase option.

Rob Edwards’ side would also like different payment terms from those on the table.

Wolves exit doesn’t make huge sense right now

The Ivory Coast international has made 16 appearances for Wolves this season. Agbadou was a regular starter until he went away for AFCON.

Knocked out to Egypt in AFCON quarter-finals, he’ll now be available again to Edwards.

Wolves paid Reims around €20m for Emmanuel Agbadou a year ago. The defender has been a relative success since then.

There’s no obvious reason the club should make a quick, and big, loss on the player. In addition, quite why they’d accept an option, rather than obligation is questionable even if Wolves want to part ways.

Should Beşiktaş then send him back in the summer, his value would have dropped and it would create a difficult situation for Wolves. Keeping him until the end of the season and then selling, if desired, looks a much better plan.
