Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be keen on signing Independiente del Valle’s Patrik Mercado. Not only that, it’s thought they’ve pushed ahead of Chelsea.
That’s according to Bolavip, who cover efforts put in by Wolves to try to secure the 22-year-old’s services.
Wolves are said to have been keen on the midfielder since last summer and ‘could be very close’ to bringing him to Molineux.
He’s enjoyed an impressive year with Independiente del Valle, managing seven goals and 10 assists from 40 games in 2025. Mercado made his debut for Ecuador last month.
The midfielder’s performances have also caught Chelsea’s attention. Despite this, the report states he has everything ready to sign for Wolves.
According to Bolavip, Vítor Pereira’s side have met with the Ecuador international and presented their project. They also relay claims made elsewhere about the parties having a meeting in Portugal, without providing any further details.
Mercado wants to play in the Premier League and Wolves can help him fulfil it.
The player’s contract expires in December 2026 and Transfermarkt currently values him at €5m. Bolavip report Independiente del Valle aren’t in position to demand more than €5m due to his contract situation.
In other words, Wolves are in line to sign Mercado either in January or next summer for a reasonable price.
