Fresh movement around Wolves’ Enso Gonzalez is now coming from Brazil, and it fits neatly with everything that has been reported in Paraguay over recent weeks.

O Globo say Botafogo are in talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign the young winger on loan, with an option to buy included. The Brazilian club are no strangers to Premier League business, given their Nottingham Forest relationship.

Nottingham Forest have signed players including Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha and Cuiabano from Botafogo.

Botafogo see Gonzalez as a chance to add quality and upside. The Brazilian club want the 20-year-old on a temporary deal, while keeping the door open for a permanent move later on.

From Wolves’ side, the idea also makes sense. Gonzalez has found it hard to break into the first team since arriving in 2023. Subsequently, he’s spent most of his time playing for the U21s.

But according to O Globo, there is one complication. Botafogo’s owner John Textor still needs to resolve a transfer ban that prevents them from registering new players.

Textor and Botafogo have been a relationship of drama, and success, since the American businessman arrived. A lot of that has been related to transfer dealings with Nottingham Forest. Aside from that, Textor has managed to create drama independently of the Premier League club as well.

Wolves could build Botafogo link

Talks are ongoing with Wolves for Enso Gonzalez, as Botafogo try to prepare deals in advance. Then, when their transfer ban is lifted it isn’t a case of starting from zero.

While we wait, it’s fair to say this interest lines up with the wider picture painted by Paraguayan media. The club are fighting for stability and have little room to gamble on young players right now. A loan, especially with a future purchase option, allows them to give Gonzalez the minutes he wants while keeping control of his future.

Nothing is final yet. Still, with interest now coming from Brazil, Wolves being open to a loan looks more concrete than ever. Maybe they could benefit from a Botafogo relationship like Nottingham Forest have.
