Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sasa Kalajdzic is ‘threatened with expulsion’ from Julen Lopetegui’s squad as he looks to reduce the number of foreign players in his selection.
That’s according to Kicker, who explain that Wolves will have to remove at least one non-homegrown player from their group this month.
The newspaper report that due to the ‘shopping frenzy’ at Wolves this month that has seen them buy Mateus Cunha, Mario Lemina, Pablo Sarabia, Craig Dawson and Daniel Bentley, with Joao Gomes also ‘expected’, tough decisions now have to be made.
They currently have 18 foreign players in their registered group but the Premier League limit is 17 so someone has to go and it is ‘quite possible’ that Sasa Kalajdzic ‘will be cut’.
It is currently a choice between him and Chiquinho as they are both struggling with serious knee injuries and it is ‘questionable’ whether they will be fit before the end of the season anyway.
Chiquinho has a ‘better chance’ than the Austrian, though.
Being removed from the squad would be a ‘mental setback’ for the striker and his teammate, even if they were facing a fight to get fit before the end of the campaign.
It’s a decision that’s yet to be made but Wolves have to do it, with their transfer splurge this month making it a necessity.
