Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Gonçalo Guedes is set to return at the ‘end of April’ after undergoing knee surgery while on loan at Benfica.
We covered the announcement from Benfica yesterday that Guedes was due to undergo surgery on a knee injury he had picked up.
The injury had come as a major blow to the forward, who has been impressing with the Portuguese side since joining them on loan from Wolves in the January transfer window.
The suggestion had been that he could face an extended spell on the sidelines but Record and O Jogo provide a positive update today.
The positive news for them, though, is that he could be available for the clash against Sporting Braga and the visit to Sporting Club de Portugal. He should also be fit for the semi-finals of the Champions League if the Portuguese side make it through.
O Jogo back that up, stating surgery is set to take place on Monday at a location that is ‘yet to be defined’ but according to their information a return is ‘expected’ at the end of April.
His absence is seen as the ‘worst case scenario’ given the important role the Wolves man has played thus far but it could have been considerably worse.
The hope is he can return and star again from the end of April, with surgery planned for Monday and the plan, presumably, to go from there.
