Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Patrick Cutrone has admitted he ‘immediately said yes’ at the chance to leave the club this summer.
Cutrone joined Empoli on loan until the end of the season back in August, his third loan since joining Wolves from AC Milan in 2019.
It marks a return to Italy for the striker, who is hoping to get back to his best in the country where he initially made his name.
His time at Wolves can only be considered a failure thus far, with three goals and four assists in 28 games and less than 1000 minutes played certainly not good value for money.
Indeed, his two years at the club have been nothing but disastrous on a personal level, something he is more than happy to admit.
“I immediately said yes to Empoli,” he told Gazzetta Dello Sport.
“I came from two complicated years, I had played little, and it was hard to show what I can do – because I know I can do much more.
“Now I’m happy to be here: I want to do well for myself and for Empoli.”
Given the circumstances, it would be easy for Cutrone to be feeling regretful about making the move to Wolves in the first place.
At the time of the transfer, it was clear he didn’t particularly want to leave AC Milan, with the transfer happening more due to the Italian side’s need for money than anything else.
Since then, things have taken a downward turn for him, with his failure to impress at Wolves followed by difficult spells at Fiorentina and Valencia as well.
For most, the last two years could be considered something of a waste, but he is refusing to look at it that way.
“It’s never wasted time; everything you do in your life is part of your path; in one way or another, they help you grow,” he added.
“I’ve matured a lot; as you go along, there are more expectations, so from the complicated things I’m stronger still and I’ve improved in many things.
“The way I am, I never give up: every opportunity is golden to prove myself. And I’m busier than ever.”
