Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly made an attempt to sign Flamengo midfielder Victor Hugo.
Globo Esporte writes that after agreeing a deal for Matheus Nunes to join Manchester City, the Molineux side tried to find a replacement in Brazil.
It’s said Wolves offered Flamengo €20m, and would let the Rio de Janeiro side keep 20% of a future transfer.
The outlet claims that both club and player, however, turned down the offer, as they don’t believe this is the ‘adequate time’ for his transfer to Europe.
Globo Esporte highlights that Victor Hugo, as well as his family and his staff, want to win trophies at Flamengo, he wants to become an idol at the club.
The Brazilian side also see him with ‘enormous potential’, and have made enough sales this year.
By going after Victor Hugo, Wolves seem to be repeating a formula from earlier this year, when they also went to Flamengo for the purchase of João Gomes, who moved for €18.7m deal.
The 22-year-old had a good adaptation to English football and they probably expected the same from the second youngster, this time without success.
