Spanish newspaper Marca cover football outside their own country quite heavily and in their New Year’s Day edition they’ve compiled a list of the best top flight debutants compiled from the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1.
The English top flight has got the most picks, with five in the ‘Rookies’ of the year team.
Out of those, Wolves make up two.
It’s no surprise to see Ruben Neves picked. Already at Porto he’d been considered a top young prospect but stuttered a little, and moved to Wolves whilst the club were still in the Championship.
The transfer has worked out for all involved, and Rui Patricio has also proven to be a good signing.
Marca include the stopper and say he’s become ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League’.
Leicester City’s James Maddison is included, and Marca say the 22 year old hasn’t been intimidated by the transfer and what’s asked of him at the Foxes.
Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is probably the least heralded of those chosen, but Marca have clearly been impressed with the youngster.
Rounding off the Premier League involvement is Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, even though the Spanish newspaper say more was expected of the player.
