Last night, we’ve seen Portuguese outlet TVI24 coming up with interesting news and saying Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in the signing of Carlos Vinícius from Benfica.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s side had already chased the player last year, and even though he’s currently having a loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur, they could make an attempt as soon as he returns to Lisbon, as a permanent move to London isn’t expected.
This is a story which is currently gaining strength in the Portuguese media, because we now also have newspaper Record coming up with similar information.
They report today that Wolves are starting to ‘laying the groundwork’ to make a formal bid for the striker, although they shouldn’t ‘even get close’ to the €60m offered in January 2020 this time around, and would only put half of that, so €30m, on the table.
One of the reasons why Wolves are back for Carlos Vinícius is that they have no guarantee of how well Raul Jimenez will fare once he’s back in action following his head injury, and so they want a good alternative option in the squad.
There are also a couple of factors (or players) which could end up being involved in a potential agreement.
The first is Rúben Vinagre, and since Benfica are reportedly interested in the Wolves full-back, who’s currently having a loan spell at Famalicão, the clubs could add him in the deal.
The Eagles are said to be aware that the English club will demand €15m.
The second revolves around Jimenez, as Record say the Molineux side still have pending payments for the transfer of the Mexican star back in 2019, and could have this debt now settled as part of the deal.
