The rumours linking Matheus Nunes to Wolverhampton Wanderers may be far from its most intense days, but it still doesn’t mean they’ve vanished.

Today, newspaper Record features a long story claiming that in case the midfielder stays at Sporting for this season, he’ll have his contract renewed, and will have the highest salary in the squad.

But before that extension is given, there’s still a while until the end of the transfer window. Despite mentioning the old interest from the likes of Newcastle United and Everton, it’s usually Wolves who get the most attention.

O Jogo claims the Molineux side ‘guaranteed they were willing to move with a bid of €45m plus €5m in bonuses’, which would be close to his €60m release clause. It’s said the bid was never made, and Record point there’s still a month and a half until the end of the window, so anything could happen.

The newspaper then draws attention to something curious, which may not have any impact on the transfer, but is still interesting.

Wolves and Sporting are set to play on the 30th of July in a friendly in Portugal. It’s said officials from both clubs should meet before the match, as ‘institutional formalisms’, and Nunes is expected to perform in front of directors from the Premier League side.

So maybe that’s one more way for him to draw their attention.
