Earlier today, we covered claims from Portugal explaining that SC Braga are in an ongoing negotiations to sell Rodrigo Gomes to Wolverhampton Wanderers for €12m. It was also stated he could arrive at Molineux next summer.
The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Estoril and they would have to be compensated to cut short his temporary deal this month.
Record back up Wolves interest in the winger, who has been mainly used as a right wing-back this season.
Gomes has managed six goals and six assists from 18 games, and has aroused interest from several clubs. Gary O’Neil’s side are among them and this has now been confirmed by his agent, Marcelo Cipriano.
“Wolves are one of the many clubs that contacted me, from the five major European leagues, showing interest in Rodrigo, but I believe it’s no surprise considering the excellent season he is having” he told Record.
The newspaper adds a possible termination of his loan deal isn’t on the table and Braga will have to compensate Estoril if they decide to take this step. The Portugal U21 international’s agent also wants him to finish the season at Estoril.
“The important thing at this moment is for Rodrigo to be calm and continue doing what he has been doing on the field. This way, at the end of the season there will be no shortage of proposals from good European clubs!” Cipriano explained.
Gomes’ deal at Braga lasts until 2026 and Record claim it has a €35m release clause. They further add Wolves or another interested party have to pay this figure to take him away from the Portuguese club next summer.
That’s of course far higher than the earlier claims.
“I believe that proposals will arrive for Rodrigo Gomes and he will leave without playing for Braga’s main [first] team,” Cipriano told Canal 11, relayed by Record.
