A couple of weeks ago, reports from Portugal said Wolverhampton Wanderers and Benfica reached an agreement to extend Gonçalo Guedes’ loan with the Eagles.
The player is currently recovering from a knee surgery, and it was said Wolves didn’t have many options but to let him try to find his best form at the Lisbon side again.
Now it turns out that this transfer was never officially confirmed, and Portuguese newspaper A Bola has a couple of things to say about that today.
The outlet explains that Wolves authorised Guedes to stay in Portugal, as the player has been working at the Seixal training centre and at the Luz hospital. He was not seen in Benfica’s pre-season squad.
It’s claimed that doctors from the English and the Portuguese club are keeping ‘close communication’ during this process, as the player is expected to be back playing by October.
And even though the loan extension wasn’t confirmed yet, it’s claimed that deal should be announced soon.
Guedes is expected to stay at Benfica for one more season, with the Eagles affording part of his salary. As soon as the move is official, he’ll be seen training with their squad again.
