Last week, we saw reports from the Portuguese media claiming Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in Sporting striker Youssef Chermiti.
It was claimed Wolves scouted him in a pre-season game, and followed by stories claiming the Lions demand €20m for his sale.
The rumours surrounding Chermiti are now doing some noise in the Lisbon media, and today, Record features an interesting story on that situation.
They start claiming that clubs like Wolves ‘can reach’ the €20m requested by Sporting. Still, they wonder if that’s a fair amount for him.
That’s why Record interviewed former Sporting player Carlos Xavier and ex-director Jorge Gaspar to speak about that possibility, and they both believe that’s too little for the transfer.
“If it’s an offer you can’t refuse, that’s one thing. If it’s to value the player and be sold later for other numbers, I think it would be to keep him another year with Rúben Amorim,” said Xavier.
“Releasing Chermiti for €20m would be an inexplicable decision and without rationality, neither economic-financial nor sporting,” stated Gaspar.
Besides Wolves, Bournemouth are also believed to be in the race for Chermiti, with Record today reporting that the Cherries are currently preparing a bid for the transfer.
The striker has recently been promoted to Sporting’s first team, having only 22 appearances made, with three goals and two assists. Now it seems English clubs want him signed before he becomes a real star.
