Wolverhampton Wanderers have made an approach to sign Real Betis’ Sergi Altimira in the winter market, according to Thursday’s edition of ABC Sevilla.
The midfielder has been a regular under Manuel Pellegrini’s orders this season, making 30 appearances in all competitions.
Wolves are one of the Premier League clubs to have shown interest in the 23-year-old.
The newspaper states Vítor Pereira’s side and several other unnamed English clubs have contacted his agent over a potential deal in this window.
Wolves and other clubs’ approaches never materialised and therefore the Spaniard will continue at Betis at least until the end of this season.
It’s to be noted Wolves are the only ones named in the report, and ABC Sevilla don’t go into detail over why Pereira wasn’t able to sign Altimira.
He joined the Spanish club from Getafe in August 2023 and signed a contract until 2028. Pellegrini mainly used him in the middle of the pitch but has also deployed Altimira as a defensive midfielder on few occasions.
Since a move to Wolves or any other club didn’t come to fruition, Real Betis will negotiate Altimira’s renewal in the coming weeks.
