Chelsea are said to have made an offer for Lazio’s Mario Gila but it seems as if Brighton and Wolves are very much in the chase for the defender.

Corriere dello Sport report on the centre-back’s future and how Lazio’s failure to qualify for Europe can impact their approach in the transfer window.

The newspaper states Chelsea aren’t the only club to have made a bid for Gila and there have been offers from both Brighton and Wolves. That pair were the first suitors to come forward for the Spaniard but their attempts are likely to meet failure.

Lazio are clear that they want a fee of €50m to sell the player to Brighton or Wolves, with Gila keen on playing for a ‘top club’ next season.

Chelsea’s offer is at €35m, similar to what it’s thought Brighton and Wolves had been prepared to pay, and this indicates that nobody seems to have an advantage in the race.

Having said that, much of it seems to be Lazio’s effort at creating an auction for a player who is quite valuable to them. Due to the absence of European football, the Rome club would want as much as possible, so that they can reinvest in a potential replacement.
