Wolverhampton Wanderers were the latest English club to show interest in Udinese’s Thomas Kristensen.

The defender has played 12 games in this campaign, and his appearances were partly restricted due to a calf problem earlier in the season.

That didn’t stop him from attracting interest from Wolves in the winter market, according to Udinese Blog.

It’s claimed Wolves came forward with an offer of £12.5m for the Dane on deadline day. However, Udinese’s owners, the Pozzo family, turned down their proposal.

There’s no mention why the Pozzo family rejected the Premier League club’s bid for the 23-year-old.

Earlier claims from Italy had stated Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City were keen on the centre-back. On January 3rd, Messaggero Veneto reported the Serie A club had set an £13.7m asking price for Kristensen.

If this report is to be believed, Wolves’ bid was £1.2m short of the Italian club’s request.

Vítor Pereira’s side signed centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou from Stade de Reims earlier in the winter market. On deadline day, they completed the signing of another centre-back, Nasser Djiga from Red Star Belgrade.

It’s possible Wolves quickly moved to sign Djiga after Udinese’s refusal to let Kristensen leave.
