Even though it seemed like Sporting and Wolverhampton Wanderers were close to ending the Rui Patrício saga, it now looks like it will still take a while.
President Frederico Varandas has just been elected, and since the day he took charge, the local press had been saying that he should soon find a deal for the players who left the club for free this summer.
But as reported by newspaper Record this weekend, even though Rui Patrício is a ‘priority’ case, these negotiations will only be resumed ‘soon’.
It probably means that clubs are still not in contact, as there has been plenty of work to do since Varandas was elected.
Wolverhampton and Sporting had already agreed a €18m deal for Patrício, but late demands from the former president Bruno de Carvalho made the deal collapse. That’s why Patrício chose to rescind his contract with the Lions and sign for Wolves.
Now even though Sporting demanded over €50m from the Premier League side in a complaint they’ve sent to FIFA, the Portuguese press expects the deal to be around that same €18m amount.
