The transfer of Ruben Vinagre from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Sporting should be made official today, according to reports from the Portuguese media.

Newspaper Record writes that the deal is ‘closed and ‘everything is agreed’ for the Lions to announce the signing of the left-back.

Vinagre is joining the Lisbon side on a one-year loan deal which could become permanent, depending on a clause where Sporting would pay €10m and Wolves would keep 50% of a future move.

The main update on the situation today is that this buying option will be triggered in case Vinagre makes a certain number of appearances for the Lions this season.

The newspaper writes that the negotiations were dragged for a few weeks because Wolves were still working on signing a new manager, and also because of the ‘complexity’ of a deal which would depend on performance goals.

Vinagre is now expected to join Sporting’s squad and start training in their pre-season ‘immediately’.

Record highlights the fact they’re signing someone who knows Portuguese football and who will need motivation to prove himself to make his transfer permanent.
