On Thursday, we relayed the news from Belgium that Leander Dendoncker would be missing Belgium’s game against San Marino due to gastroenteritis.
One of the big questions beyond that piece of information was whether or not the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder would be fit to face Kazakhstan next Tuesday, and the answer is sadly no.
Speaking to the press, relayed by Sport.be, Roberto Martínez explained he ‘didn’t feel Dendoncker was ready for such a long flight with his stomach issues’.
Clearly weakened by the illness, it seems the versatile player will now return home instead of travelling to Astana for his national team’s fixture and will presumably focus on recovering in order to be fit for Wolves’ next game.
That will be on October 19th, giving him ample time to feel better, as Nuno Espírito Santo’s side welcome Southampton at the Molineux in what should be a good game for the Premier League side to continue their current run of form of three wins in their last three games.
