Sometimes, nature just gets in the way of things, and for Leander Dendoncker, it’s an illness stopping him from playing for Belgium against San Marino.
Now one of the first names on the team sheets at Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Belgian is once again a regular for his national team under Roberto Martínez, so it was no surprise to see him called up for the current international break.
He arrived with the rest of the squad without any issues, but the Spanish manager revealed in a press conference the player would be out for the upcoming fixture against San Marino and could even miss the game after that.
He said, relayed by DH: “Dendoncker will miss the game [on Wednesday]. He wasn’t fit to train. We still haven’t taken a decision about the Kazakhstan match.”
While Martínez didn’t reveal what was wrong with the Wolves player, RTBF provided a bit more information, claiming the versatile midfielder was out because of gastroenteritis.
Unless the illness takes a nasty turn, he should be fine for the Premier League side’s next fixture regardless, and we’ll give you an update if anything comes out about him missing the Kazakhstan game.
Nuno Espírito Santo will probably want to know too.
