We said on Monday it looked like Inter were getting a bit bored of waiting for Wolverhampton to make a move for Joao Mario.

Well, they needn’t hold their breath any longer, because there’s nothing to stick around for.

Tuesday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport explains that Sporting CP are now the latest club to want the Portugal international, hoping to bring their former star back to Lisbon.

That wouldn’t be anywhere near as straightforward for Inter as sending him to Wolves for a set fee, as the Portuguese club’s finances don’t mirror that of Nuno Espirito Santo’s club.

Unfortunately for Inter, Wolves’ interest is said to have ‘vanished into thin air’, leading us to wonder if it was ever really there in the first place.

After all, no offer was ever made by the Premier League side, and it seemed like too much of a coincidence that yet another undesired Portuguese footballer could find a safe haven at Molineux next season.

André Silva never happened, André Gomes probably won’t and now Joao Mario doesn’t look like he’s going to get his desired move to England.
