Portuguese side Sporting are finally close on finding a deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the transfer o Rui Patrício, according to the Portuguese press today.

Newspaper Record claims that it’s agent Jorge Mendes who’s handling the talks, as he has a ‘privileged’ relationship with the Premier League side. The representative is also dealing with Atlético Madrid for the transfer of Gelson Martins.

The outlet says that these agreements are ‘imminent’. It’s expected that the Lisbon side will make around €18m with the goalkeeper’s sale to Wolves.

This is the same amount that Wolverhampton had offered in the summer window. That deal only collapsed because former president Bruno de Carvalho made late demands which were not accepted.

This case has been widely covered by the Portuguese press in the past few weeks, and some of the reports have had different information. Earlier this week, it was claimed that Sporting were willing to make ‘much more’ than €18m. So we better wait and see what happens.

It’s worth recalling that when reporting Wolverhampton to FIFA, Sporting demanded over €50m from the Premier League side.
