Leeds United’s search for a new permanent manager is still to be fruitful, two weeks after sacking Jesse Marsch.
The Premier League side have seen a few candidates turn them down and the list includes Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.
Earlier this month, the Dutchman confirmed contact from “wonderful club” Leeds United, but insisted he won’t be leaving the Eredivisie side for the Whites.
Slot’s decision to stay with Feyenoord has been hailed by former Ajax and PSV Eindhoven manager, Aad de Mos.
The 44-year-old joined Feyenoord from AZ Alkmaar in December 2020. De Mos appeared as a guest on Soccernews, where he stressed it was difficult for Leeds to replicate the same situation to Slot midway through the season.
“You can do that once, as he did at AZ. Giving his signature to Feyenoord in the middle of the season, he was never thanked for that,” he said, as quoted by Feyenoord Pings.
Feyenoord are leading the Eredivisie table and are also in contention to win the KNVB Cup and the Europa League. De Mos is of the belief his compatriot will receive better options than Leeds in the near future.
“He doesn’t have to do that. I think he will soon have the clubs to choose from. He is busy on three fronts, he can still become national champion, he can win the KNVB Cup, he can win the Europa League, so it is very wise that he doesn’t [leave],” De Mos explained.
