Will Still left Southampton back in November and has been out of management since. The manager is now closing in on a new role.

During his five months with the Saints, Still left them only one point above relegation. Things changed soon after his departure, with the South Coast club having finishing fourth and now in the Play-Off final.

Still made his name during a very promising spell at Reims between 2022 and 2024. A return to French football always looked a likely route, given how bad it was with Southampton.

Move could be a big opportunity

Fabrice Hawkins reports that Lorient have chosen the ex-Reims boss as their next manager. Talks are underway, with the journalist appearing confident that the deal will go through.

RMC Sport relay similar information, indicating that discussions are ongoing between the two parties.

Lorient are set to move on from Olivier Pantaloni at the end of the season. They find themselves ninth in the table right now, with hopes of European qualification already extinguished.

Deal can resurrect Still’s career

Will Still came to Southampton with a positive reputation, which didn’t grow in England. If anything, the perception around him has only turned negative and English clubs will think twice before hiring him.

That is why a move to France makes a lot of sense. Lorient will offer a low-key environment for Still to get his career back on track. There is also a chance that they make it to Europe under him, with Reims having come close to doing that in the 2023/24 campaign.

As a result, he could open up more opportunities for himself in the future.
