PSV Eindhoven and midfielder Joey Veerman have been warned they will be “punished mercilessly” against Arsenal if they don’t improve on what they showed against Lens.
That’s the opinion shared by former Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder, who has criticised PSV’s Joey Veerman for his comments after his side’s draw in the Champions League last night.
PSV drew 1-1 with Lens away from home last night in matchday three in Group B, a result which did little for the Eredivisie club’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.
The Dutch side currently sit bottom of the group alongside Sevilla with two points from three games so far, putting them four behind group leaders Arsenal and three behind Lens in second.
As things currently stand that game might end up being something of a dead rubber for both sides, although PSV are naturally hoping that is not the case.
After their game last night midfielder Joey Veerman admitted he had noticed he and the rest of the midfield were ‘swimming’, comments that didn’t go down well with Sneijder, who says the player and the rest will need to improve fast.
“I think this is special,” he said.
“Veerman is a member of the Dutch national team and has been around for several years. Then you make sure you keep your team together again. There are always moments when you can restore that balance.
“He does see it! He notices it and explains it right after the match. If you see it, you must do something about it. If you see that you are ‘swimming together’, you have to say something about it.
“Those are the little details. Because he does nothing about this, you run into the equaliser, and it can even get much worse. This is not possible, certainly not at this level. This will be punished mercilessly against Arsenal.”
