Through the past few weeks, it’s been of course inevitable for Newcastle United to be linked to players from all over Europe.

Following the club’s takeover, several rumours started coming up, especially in Italy, where the transfer market is traditionally one of the big subjects in local newspapers.

Now it turns out that the Magpies may not be making signings from abroad so soon, at least to the opinion of an agent interviewed today by Tutto Mercato Web.

Speaking to Andrea Boscolo, the outlet asked him about Newcastle’s next steps in the market, and the intermediary claims that considering the club’s need to stay in the Premier League this season, Eddie Howe’s arrival could be a sign that they’d rather go for signings within the English market.

“They absolutely have to save the season, they have taken Howe who knows the local market and I think they will go with players who already know the Premier League,” Boscolo told Tutto Mercato Web.

“It will be a national transfer window, then this summer, without problems with Fair Play, they will give you a lot to write…”

That of course will not stop the Italian rumour mill from naming Newcastle as potential destinations for many players, but is undoubtedly an opinion which makes sense given the club’s priorities for 2022.
