Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Julio Enciso has admitted he would be sad to see fellow South Americans Moisés Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister depart the club this summer.
The youngster has been speaking to ABC about his time at Brighton so far and the strong South American contingent currently starring under Roberto de Zerbi.
Caicedo, who is Ecuadorian, and Mac Allister, who is Argentinian, are at the top of that list, having established themselves as key players for the Seagulls over the last two years.
Indeed, the latter has built on his success on the South Coast to also impress on the international stage, playing a key role in Argentina’s triumph at the World Cup in Qatar last year.
It means that both players are highly sought-after and there is an acceptance, and there has been for some time, that both will be leaving Brighton at the end of the season.
Caicedo was already heaving linked with a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window while several reports have indicated that Liverpool are close to finalising a deal for Mac Allister.
Enciso would be sad to see them both depart, even if he would be more than happy to take Mac Allister’s number ten shirt moving forwards.
“The group of South Americans is very important, I got to have some great players as teammates, that helps the squad to be united,” he said.
“Thank God this season was incredible for us,” he commented on the great relationship he has with players such as Jeremy Sarmiento, Pervis Estupiñán, Moisés Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister.
“It’s going to make me sad if they leave (but I’d) like to wear the team’s 10. I made my dream come true with the number 20 but if I get the chance, I’d be very happy.
“The number 11 too, because that’s the number I use in the national team.”
