On Thursday, Radu Drăgușin’s agent confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have held talks over a potential deal for the Genoa star.
Florin Manea, the defender’s representative, has given a lengthy interview to Fanatik in Romania, where he provides background into when the talks with Spurs took place.
He has warned Tottenham that they aren’t the only club to have shown interest in the 21-year-old. The agent also stated Genoa sporting director Marco Ottolini has received calls from several interested parties who are keen to secure his client’s services.
“I spoke to Tottenham a few days before the Juventus match, they took information about Radu, about his character, but it stopped there. They will let us know if they want to continue or not. And there are several clubs calling, not only Tottenham,” he said.
“Ottolini also said there are many clubs that call and are interested in him, and it’s normal because he plays very well. There are few central defenders in Europe of his age who play match after match. And how he plays, because he has 16 matches without a yellow card.”
Recent claims have talked about Barcelona as an option for the Romania international but his agent has revealed that he hasn’t held talks with the La Liga side so far.
“At least if you go, you go to a top team where you catch once in your life. These are rarer trains. Otherwise, even if we moved him in the winter, that would be a risk for the national team,” Manea explained.
“Everyone says: ‘What if he doesn’t play?’ I have faith in him that he’ll play and I don’t think anyone is crazy to spend €30m on him and not play.
“Radu and I discuss all aspects, including the one with the national team. We try to make the best decision for him… Many people condemned me for the choice [Genoa] I made, but it was the right one. Just as we have to think very carefully about our next move, no one is rushing us.
“I know that if Tottenham will contact us that they want to make the transfer, then it is clear that they are doing it because they need him and then by the summer, he will be 100% able to play.”
“Now it also depends on him how he plays, if you play badly until the summer, it’s normal that in the summer they will reorient themselves. There are big clubs, there are clubs that have money, nobody is waiting for you. But I think that Radu is ready for this step, both mentally and physically.”
With Manea insisting that Drăgușin wouldn’t be moving to another Serie A side, the north London club seem to be the best possible option for his client at the moment.
Ange Postecoglou has already asked for a new centre-back in January and Tottenham are likely to fulfil their manager’s request.
It remains to be seen whether that’ll be the Romanian, Club América’s Sebastián Cáceres or another player.
