Everything now seems set for Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic to join Manchester City this summer.
The latest news on this move comes from the German media, where Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg talks about how advanced the talks are.
According to the reporter, the deal for Kovacic is ‘close to being done’ as ‘he will join Manchester City’.
Plettenberg says the transfer ‘should be finalised’ by the end of the week, with Pep Guardiola’s side spending €30m ‘with the bonuses included’.
Manchester City have moved quickly and early in the transfer window to secure the midfielder’s signing, as they aim to replace Ilkay Gündogan, whose contract at the Etihad expires at the end of the month.
Chelsea signed Kovacic from Real Madrid on a loan deal in 2018, and then made the move permanent in the following year for a €45m fee.
In his years with the Blues, the midfielder made 221 appearances, and there he won a Champions League, a Europa League and a Club World Cup.
Kovacic had a few injuries this season, but still managed to make 37 games for Chelsea which were apparently enough to draw the interest from Pep Guardiola.
