Ethan Ampadu’s decision to join RB Leipzig on a season-long loan from Chelsea hasn’t gone as per the plan.

The 19-year-old has been on the pitch for less than 300 minutes across seven matches in all competitions for the Bundesliga side this campaign.

Before football was suspended due to the Covid-19 crisis, the Wales international was struggling with a back problem.

Last month, we carried a report from Bild, may not feature for Julian Nagelsmann’s side again.

It was also stated the player wants to prepare for next season, when he could have an opportunity to become a ‘mainstay’ under Frank Lampard.

RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krösche has provided an update on the loan situations at the club in this week’s edition of SportBild.

Regarding Ampadu, Krösche said: “The loan contract expires without an option. It’s been discussed that he will go back to Chelsea.”

The Welshman’s contract at Stamford Bridge lasts until 2023 and it remains to be seen if Lampard will include him in his plans for next season or ask the teenager to go out on another loan spell.
