Cody Gakpo will “amaze everyone” at Liverpool, having finally secured a big money move to the Premier League.
That’s according to AZ Alkmaar manager Pascal Jansen, who knows the player from his time in the Netherlands.
Gakpo will officially join Liverpool in a €42m move from PSV Eindhoven on January 1st, with the Reds confirming the move earlier this week.
The Dutchman will arrive at Anfield with a growing reputation as one of the rising stars of Europe after another impressive campaign that has seen him score nine and register 12 assists in 14 games in the Eredivisie this season.
He has also shone in the Europa League, bagging three goals and two assists in five games, and bagged three goals in five games for the Netherlands during the World Cup in Qatar.
The question now is how quickly he can adapt to life at Liverpool and in the Premier League, both of which will necessitate a major step up from the player.
Jansen, though, has no doubt that the 23-year-old will do so, backing him to continue shining in the Premier League.
“Gakpo is a diamond,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I met him in the PSV Under-15s and already in the Academy he shone with his immense quality. At only 23 years old he was one of the stars of the Dutch league and in Qatar, with the national team, he was outstanding.
“At Klopp’s Liverpool he will amaze everyone: he can become a spectacular striker.”
