Ángel Di María was at Manchester United for only one season as the winger left the Red Devils for PSG in 2015.

A section of the Old Trafford faithful initially expected the Argentine to improve the club’s chances of winning silverware after he played a key role in helping Real Madrid win the Champions League during the 2013/14 season.

However, things never clicked for the 32-year-old and his time in England was disappointing, both on and off the field. Di María has been critical when discussing his short spell with the Premier League side.

His wife, Jorgelina Cardoso, has now given an interview to Los Angeles de la Mañana and revealed she was against the decision to join United.

“One day Angel came and said: ‘A proposal from Manchester [United] has come. Maybe we are going to be a little better because of [financial] security … ‘. I warned him, told not even a chance, that he was going to go alone. ‘Yes Yes. We’re leaving, ‘he replies’,” AS quoted Cardoso as saying.

“There was a lot of money, even after the Spanish came out to call us money grabbers. And yes, we were! If you work in a company and the competition comes to tell you that he pays double, you run away!”

During Di María’s time at Real Madrid, he and his wife visited Manchester to meet Sergio Agüero and his former partner, Gianinna Maradona. Cardoso never had a positive view towards the English city since then.

“I didn’t want to go to Manchester because at that time, I was a friend of Gianinna Maradona, who was Agüero’s partner, and we travelled from Madrid to their home in Manchester to visit them for a few days free that Angel had at Real,” she explained.

“Horrible! We left the house, we greeted them and when we left, I told him [Di María] ‘Go to any country, except England’. And what happened? After a year we were in England.

“I didn’t like anything at all. The people were all skinny, neat, weird. You are walking and you don’t know if they are going to kill you or what. The food is disgusting.”

The claims made by Di María and Cardoso over the years have been a clear indication the couple never enjoyed during their time in England.

Maybe Cardoso, bless her delicate soul, was always born to live in Paris.
