It appears progress has been made over the weekend in AS Roma’s attempts to sign Diego Llorente from Leeds United.
The defender spent the second half of last season on loan with the Serie A side, and impressed enough to convince José Mourinho to keep him around for longer.
Leeds’ relegation to the Championship also opened a door for Tiago Pinto to negotiate a discount for the player, who will not want to go back to Elland Road and play second-tier football, and it appears, at least according to Leggo, relayed by Roma News, that it’s all very close.
The newspaper explain the Spaniard is ‘heading towards a return to Trigoria’, as the Italians are ‘working with the English to find an understanding’ to keep him around.
Leggo state that all that’s left are ‘the details’, and the ‘white smoke is imminent’, suggesting a deal is right around the corner.
This falls in line with what Corriere Roma were hinting at on Sunday when they said there was a ‘good chance’ Roma would get what they wanted as Pinto continued to negotiate with Leeds.
Unfortunately for the Elland Road side, they will be unlikely to be getting the €18m they had pre-agreed with the Italian club back in January, with recent reports stating something under €10m was the figure being discussed.
