According to a claim in the Turkish media, Rangers defender James Tavernier is unlikely to sign for Besiktas in the coming days.
There have been reports in recent days stating the Istanbul side are looking to sign the right back before the Super Lig transfer deadline this Friday, but it seems Philippe Clement will have the player until at least January.
Haber Turk today report on Besiktas’ pursuit of the Rangers man, and they say the Scottish Premiership side failing to bring in reinforcements means Tavernier will remain in Glasgow.
Yesterday there were reports in the Turkish press that the Black Eagles were back in talks to sign the Rangers player.
Besiktas manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst was keen on a reunion with the 32-year-old, but it looks like the Dutch coach will have to do without.
Tavernier made 58 appearances for the Scottish club last season, scoring 24 goals. He’s contracted to Rangers until June 2026.
Besiktas are now rushing around the market for other right back options, after a deal for Kieran Trippier also collapsed.
